What inspired you to pursue photography as a professional, and what keeps you passionate about it after all these years?
I’ve always loved to create, and photography has been a powerful medium for expressing that passion. Like all things in life, the journey has had its ups and downs. Twelve years ago, I started using the Fujifilm X-series system, and it reignited my love for photography. Having a tool that you truly enjoy using plays a major role in sustaining and deepening that passion.
For those unfamiliar with your work Ivan, how would you describe your style of photography?
I love doing some crazy stuff with my photography, but deep down, my true passion lies in photographing people. They’re the most fun, challenging, unpredictable—and occasionally even a little scary—subjects to capture. But they’re also the most rewarding. Do check out my website.
What kind of clients do you tend to work with, and what are they looking for in an image?
I’m a commercial photographer, and my clients range from multinational corporations to individual business owners. I believe the key to attracting the right clients lies in your portfolio. A strong portfolio helps potential clients understand your style and determine whether it aligns with what they’re looking for.
Do you have a preferred setup that you use for most of your work in terms of camera, lens and lighting?
I don’t have a fixed setup, as every scenario calls for something different. That said, I do have preferences when it comes to the tools I use. For commercial work, the Fujifilm GFX medium format system is my weapon of choice. And when it comes to lighting, it’s always Broncolor.
What led you to create FujiFanBoys, and how has the community grown since its inception?
Fujifanboys started with a simple concept; to weave the Fujifilm community globally onto this platform.
Tell us about your proudest achievement as a photographer…
I’ve had many memorable moments in my career—from exhibiting my work in Europe, to shooting regional campaigns for multinational brands, to being part of a Fujifilm GFX global camera launch. But what touches me most are the workshop sessions where I get to share with the next generation of photographers. These moments of teaching and connection are, to me, the most rewarding part of what I do.
Why is protecting your photography gear—such as cameras and lenses—essential for both professionals and hobbyists?
As photographers, our cameras and lenses are the essential tools we use to create. Whether you’re a professional or a hobbyist, protecting your gear is always important. We invest in cool bags and sturdy cases—but accidents still happen. And I’ve had my fair share of those moments. So having insurance is key.
Can you tell us why you have agreed to be an Ambassador for KoverNow?
As a professional photographer, I have insurance to cover my gear. When I travel for leisure, I usually get travel insurance like everyone else. But after experiencing two incidents—one involving a lens, the other a laptop—I quickly learned that most travel insurance policies only cover up to $1,000 per item, which is far too low for most cameras and lenses. That’s when I discovered KoverNow. Their app-based, camera and lens insurance solution provides worldwide and high-value coverage that caters to hobbyists and leisure users who want to protect their personal photographic gear. It was a game-changer for me. And this can be done via an app. It’s that simple.
